PUBLICACIÓN

KLIDONAS

Special Issue on The Encounter:
g
“What do you consider the essential encounter of your life? – To what extent did this encounter seem to you, and does it seem to you now, to be fortuitous or preordained?” These were the terms of a 1933 surrealist investigation, published in the Minotaure magazine. Ever since then, surrealism looks at the encounter in the light of chance, as a meeting point of external necessity and internal desire. A tribute to the encounter, as one privileged area of the practice and recording of the surrealist experience, comprises a focus point of the fourth issue of Klidonas.
Included are texts by surrealists from the movement’s entire historical and geographical spectrum: André Breton, Benjamin Péret, Paul Éluard, Jean Schuster, Mary Low, Ody Saban, Rafet Arslan, Vicente Gutierrez-Escudero and Eugenio Castro. Also, the members and friends of the surrealist group Lefki Athanassiou, Yannis Golfinopoulos, Diamantis Karavolas, Vangelis Koutalis, Galini Notti, Nikos Stabakis and Yannis Xourias, venture their own views on the matter and their –at times playful– experiences of encounters.

Also in the issue:

 After the recent loss of the major American surrealist Franklin Rosemont (1943-2009), Nikos Stabakis pays homage to him and translates two of his texts.

 Sotiris Liontos translates poems by the French surrealist Guy Cabanel, and a narrative written by Annie le Brun.

 The collective text “Surrealism and cinema, before and after the smashing of the mirror.”

 Records of surrealist games devised and/or played by the group, as well as poems and texts by the members and friends of the group, Labrini Aiorokleous, Yannis Golfinopoulos, Alexandra Halkias, Socratis Kerkis, Sotiris Liontos, Lydia Papazisi and Yannis Xourias.

 The 4th Issue of Klidonas features drawings and collages by Eleni Koritou, Theoni Tambaki and Marianna Xanthopoulou, as well as further illustrations by participants in the international surrealist movement. The Klidonas cover is a work by the French surrealist Ody Saban.
